Fit test

I got a fit test ordered by my doctor for peace of mind.  Due to my two week obbession with reading bowel cancer stories in young people

I understand how lucky I am having such a nice doctor who doesn’t fob me off due my age im 32

the results came back as insufficient patient identifiers and I have to repeat it. The speed it came back has made me even more  anxious my rational side says they didn’t even test it cause they couldn’t identify it but my anxiety says it’s full of blood and it’s urgent but they couldn’t identify who’s sample it was

I hate anxiety

Can anyone tell me if they test samples who aren’t  identifiable ?

I have severe anxiety and IBS

  • I have no visible blood and my stool color is normal

  • Hi Andy, I completely understand the anxiety! I had three tests which I was asked to do again with the final one being slightly raised at 27. This was in October 2022. I then had a normal colonoscopy with biopsies. Fast forward to February 2024, I was told to repeat it and it’s now 200 and back under further investigations awaiting CT results.

It’s hard to know why they are insufficient but my GP at the time just asked me to repeat them. I must admit I was thinking like you at the time whether it was positive and they were asking me to repeat just to confirm as it was only just slightly raised but based on my second test this year I’m not so sure.

Could you contact your GP practice and ask them at all?

  • I did one 2 years ago I wasn’t even told the results I assume it was positive as I got a gastroscopy within two weeks I had gastritis and a hit’s hernia  then which flared up again few weeks ago right when I started worrying about bowel cancer

I didn’t notice my symptoms could be related to that again until I got more omprezole and I feel better now. Wonder if I just trigger my IBS with anxiety over a gastritis flare up

im going to redo it tomorrow but if its positive it could be so due to my gastritis and the fit test is for a change of bowel habits so I might have to have both scopes
