CT virtual colonoscopy report also sent to gynaecology

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced a CT virtual colonoscopy (or even traditional colonoscopy) and the report being sent to another speciality?

I’m not under gynaecology so I’m confused why the report has been sent to my Colorectal Consultant but also gynaecology. I’m worried this means something has shown up and because of how quickly it has been sent. I had the scan yesterday morning and in the afternoon the report was sent to both specialities.

  • Hello io123,

It's hard to know really for sure why the CT virtual colonoscopy report has been sent to both specialities and you will have a clearer idea as to why this happened once you have access to your report and find out more about what was found when you have spoken to the specialist. I am sure that there is an explanation for this and that they will be able to tell you more so don't hesitate to contact for example your colorectal consultant's secretary and ask why you have also been referred to gynaecology, if they can tell you more about it. It may be that what was found needs to be evaluated by both specialities and there are often overlaps between colorectal and gynaecology and this also in the case of benign conditions. So don't worry too much about it though - this doesn't necessarily mean something concerning has shown up and neither does the fact that the report has been sent very quickly. It's impossible to draw any conclusions from the fact they were so efficient - it's good though that things moved fast and hopefully you will get some clarity on this very soon.

I hope that you will hear from the experiences of other community members who have also had a similar experience after a CT colonoscopy report was sent to gynaecology and colorectal and that they will be able to explain to you why this was the case for them. Remember though that no two people's experiences and diagnoses will be the same.  I hope that you can talk to someone soon and that they will give you more information to explain this and tell you more about the content of the report itself.

Keeping everything tightly crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
