Virtual colonoscopy in addition to traditional colonoscopy

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has advice re wait times for virtual colonoscopy results?

I had one this morning and it’s showing the report has already been uploaded and sent to my consultant. Does this mean something has been flagged up or am I overworrying?

I had a normal colonoscopy a year and a half ago and the results took longer from the biopsies.

My FIT result has since drastically increased, losing a lot of weight, now have lump and generally symptoms are worse. I have a non resolving anal fissure too which I’ve had botox surgery for with no luck so I’m really anxious that after all this time there is actually something there or least something more sinister causing these symptoms.

This is why my consultant asked me to have a virtual colonoscopy instead to check other surrounding organs in my abdomen as well as the bowel.

Has anyone been through anything similar having both procedures done and has it been of benefit for a diagnosis?

  • Hello io123

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns. It sounds like it's been a difficult time and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what may be responsible for the symptoms you've described.

When we're waiting for results, and feeling worried, it's easy to try and read between the lines to fathom why results are received quickly or why they are taking so long. Unfortunately, we know that generally there is no firm pattern to how quickly results are processed or uploaded to the system. It may be that although the results from your CT colonoscopy have been received by the Consultant already that they will wait to discuss all the findings from your tests with the MDT before contacting you.

Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long to hear from them. If you don't have news within 2 weeks then they're no harm in calling the team secretary or the hospital department to ask for an update.

If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I'm sure they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can.

I do hope you have some news soon.

    Best wishes,
