Red Flag Query - wait times

Hi all

Hope this question is allowed but I was wondering if anyone has any idea of the wait times for red flag refferals for gynae in the Belfast trust.  Specifically for cervical referrals if that helps.

The website advises 1 week but that's not accurate- I've been waiting almost 2 weeks now and my case hasn't even been triaged yet.  I called and asked a few days ago and was told 'hopefully they will triage on Tuesday and then we will phone you in a few weeks when we have an appointment'.

I appreciate there are long waits everywhere and this might be nothing but the longer the wait goes on the more anxious I become.

If anyones been through something similar then advice on coping with this wait would be good

Cheers

  • Hi, I'm also in Belfast, my doctor done a red flag refferal to breast clinic 3 weeks ago. She told me on the day I should expect to wait 4/6 weeks. When I checked website it said 2 weeks. So I called appointments office and she advised red flags are currently 14 weeks for breast clinic. She also explained that the website "my wait times" is very inaccurate but they where trying to get the appointments spread out through other hospitals not uust belfast. It's absolutely shocking and I know how anxious it is waiting. Some days I'm OK, other days Im in tears. I hope your OK might be worth checking out a private appointment

  • 14 weeks.  That's shocking.  Such a worry for you.

Praying it doesn't end up being that long but they won't give me an estimated time.  I've emailed a private hospital enquiring about prices so fingers crossed it's not going to bankrupt me.

I hope we both hear something soon and obviously hoping we are both skipping out of our appointments with wee harmless cysts.

Thanks for sharing with me, it's not good news but it's reassuring to know other people are getting through the same thing

  • Luckily I have beneden so I've managed to get an appointment in 4 weeks, I've waited 2 already. This happened to me before with gyny in 2021, hence why I took beneden. So I had a very large ovarian cyst a few years ago, when I went to a&e at the time they put me on a wait list for a scan. I couldn't cope with the wait and was out of my mind so I went and paid £250 for a private consultation at a hospital and I was seen right away and I was also put on surgery list for removal in city hospital and had op a week or 2 later. If I could give you any advice, I would tell you to call them and book in for a private consultation. Unfortunately private breast consultation is still 4 weeks but hopefully not thr same for gyny. You could hopefully see them by the end of the week and have peace of mind. Sending you a big hug, I understand how stressful you can call them and they will give you cost on phone. It's usually 250/280 x
