Bright red blood after colonoscopy 10 months ago 28 Male

Hello im looking for some advice I had a colonoscopy around 10 months ago which was clear and they didnt really find anything unfortunatly at the time my bleeding subsided but they did find grade 1 hemeroids. Since then i have had bouts of bright red blood on tissue at least 2 or 3 times since the investigation. Ive had this issue since i was around 20 years old on and off and im still very anxious about it as it comes and goes. Im going to go back to the doctors asap to ask there opinion but should i be concerned considering the colonoscopy was clear 10 months ago should i be pushing for another one. I mean is it possible for something concerning to of grown since then. Im mainly worried because the bleeding has never gone for a substanstial amount of time.

Thanks in advance

  • Hello Ladsboy21,

sounds like Hemorrhoids bleeding fresh after a bowel movement. The real concern would be seeing stale blood appearing as dark spots peppered within the stool. Perhaps they have grown since your last inspection, your doctor should advise the next steps.

Unconnected but l have been bleeding for the past ten years since bowel surgery, its fresh and from rapid successive bowel movements scouring off the bowel lining. If it were a recurrence l would have known about it long before now. Without further indicators l would not stress myself and ruin my second chance with mindless worry.

    Good luck with your appointment,

                                                           David

  • Thank you David, yeah you are right im anxious about this issue and it has bothered me for as long as i can remember always thinking its something worse its something im going to therapy for and trying to work through but it is hard. Thank you for the advice.

  • Hello, I hope you are ok as I can completely relate in some ways. I had a raised FIT in December 2022 (27) and my colonoscopy and biopsies were normal. At the time I only noticed a bit of blood. My symptoms have progressively got worse and I had a repeat FIT in February this year and it’s now (200), I had a virtual colonoscopy today to double check the bowel as the previous colonospopy was normal in 2022. I would really go back to your GP if your symptoms persist and are ongoing. You do need to find out what’s causing it. I have progressively got more unwell with my symptoms and noticing more blood. My consultant did say to me back when she told me the results that even if I started growing a polyp then, it would take five years to turn into cancer so that does give me hope and hopefully you too but that’s not a given. You know your body better than anyone else so please get checked and even ask for another colposcopy or virtual colonoscopy to double check/rule out and either way to give yourself reassurance and clarity as to what is going on!
