Mole on sole of foot

I have a mole on the sole of my foot that appeared around 6 years ago. I’ve had it checked by a dermatologist as it’s changed colour shape and become itchy. She has no concerns and says the itching is probably more the foot than the mole. . But I can get it removed for piece of mind and get tested. But I would need 2-3 weeks recovery because it’s the sole of the foot. Would you recommend getting it removed? I don’t know what to do.. thank you.

  • Hi,

Personally I would have it removed because, until it's biopsied and you 100% know it's benign you will worry every time it itches or changes. Also, moles on the sole of the foot or palm of the hand are more rare & therefore treated with more suspicion. Yes, it takes longer to recover because it's a weight bearing area of the body but it's a small price to pay for peace of mind. I had one removed from exactly the same area & it was thankfully benign so hopefully yours will be the same. Good luck & please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • Thank you Angie for taking the time to message me. After a good think and reading your message I have decided to have it removed. I have two kids and a busy life so will be difficult but for my sanity and my future I will not regret having it removed. All booked for July 4th :)

  • That's good. At least you have time to arrange help with the kids for the first few days. Take care & let us know how it goes.

  • Hi, I just had a very similar situ with a mole on sole of my foot, I’m glad you’re booked to have it removed. I was surprised at how long the healing is taking, so just to give you a heads up! I’m 4 weeks after the removal and still unable to weight bear. They couldn’t use stitches due to the type of surgery to remove the mole, so it’s basically been on open wound/ hole in my foot about 1.5cm. I’ve had to have the wound checked and dressing changed every 4 days and now seen podiatry who were way more helpful. I’d be prepared and ask nurse/ GP to order you a waterproof shower cover as you’ll have to keep it dry. Hope that helps a bit with what to expect, I’m still waiting on results!
