Dr saw something on my cervix and has gave me an urgent referral.

I've had problems with bleeding for about 9 months.

Today my GP looked at my cervix and said he could see something that is causing the bleeding and has referred me urgently to a specialist. Me and my GP have a great Dr/patient relationship and his face was grey when he told me.

I'm 45 and my last smear was 3 years ago at which everything was clear.

I am shaking like a leaf and I feel sick. I don't see what else it could be other than cancer. Now I'm fearing it's spread.

I've got young kids, I've mentioned anything to them until I'm certain.

I feel like I'm in a daze.

  • Hello Missyell,

When I want for my smear earlier this year, my nurse and I discovered whats called an Ectropion of the Cervix. Basically the cells that form your uterus start growing on your cervix/vaginal walls. This can cause excessive/tempermental bleeding, expecially after sex. She said mine isn't a cause for concern yet but we're keeping an eye on it and it's going to be checked at every smear I have. I had an antepartum haemorage when I was 38 weeks pregnant with my daughter which sent me into hospital to later have an emergency c section. She said this could've caused that blood loss as obviously theres soooo many blood vessels in your uterus lining that the pressure of baby's head dropping into my pelvis probably triggered it. Hopefully this isn't cancer for you and something like what I have that can just be managed. My nurse said severe ones can lead to being referred to a specialist. Keeping my fingers crossed for you :) here is you wanna chat xx
