Blood in Poo

Hi

I’m 22 and have had red blood in my poo for two weeks. I went to A&E and they felt for haemorrhoids and there was nothing. My bloods were ok and also my urine tests,

however Dr did two poo tests and they have come back positive. Now being referred to cancer department at my local hospital for further tests. Has anyone had these poo tests?

  • Hello Charlotte.B,

Seeing red blood in your poo can be very distressing especially as it went on for two weeks. It's reassuring that your bloods were ok and your urine tests but it seems that they have decided to do further investigations after your FIT test came back positive - this is not surprising as the tests looks for traces of blood in your poo but it doesn't necessarily mean it is cancer as blood can be caused by so many other conditions especially at such a young age as yours. However it is important to investigate things properly so it's good that you have been referred for further tests. A great number of forum members have had these tests and they have also come back positive and I hope that they will come and share their experience with you.

I hope it won't be too long a wait to be seen for further tests and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,

  • I’ve had the same tests and my bloods also came back showing I’m anemic, currently waiting to see when my colonoscopy is going to be and hopefully I’ll get some answers,

fingers crossed for you it’s nothing serious x

  • Hi...I'm in a similar situation...seen by G.P.  3 bowel screening tests and a positive qFIT test. Sent to Colorectal last Wednesday,  following an examination the Consultant referred me for a Colonoscopy.  Received a letter on Saturday,  appt booked for 4th June.

Thinking of you and everyone else who is waiting and worrying

  • So sorry to ask but what were your fit test results(figures)

  • Hi Charlotte,  my result for my qFIT was 13.5 . My consultant explained that any reading over 10 is 'positive '  I live in Scotland and it seems that different health boards adopt a different scoring system...

    Very confusing for the patient..

I have seen comments here with a score marked by 00's......not sure this is of any help to you.
