USC referral

Hi,

New here. Would like to start with explaining I found a lump in my breast little over 2 weeks ago and went to my GP who referred me to the breast clinic. I was told I would receive an appointment within a few weeks but an appointment has come through for 2 weeks time. I will be having a triple assessment. Since going to my GP my lymph node has become prominent in my armpit on the left side same side as my breast lump. My GP has said she can't do any more for me as I was already fast tracked.

As I work in the hospital in womens services, I have today found out that my referral is under USC. Is this normal? Is this how everyone is referred to the breast clinic? Or do they really suspect cancer? Of course I have been left reeling and upset. So I suppose just after a bit of advice or even just a hand hold.

Thank you.

  • Hi Smalltowngirl and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry to hear you found a lump in your breast and that your GP has referred you on the urgent suspected cancer pathway.

I hope it helps to know that most of our members have been referred to the breast clinic this way, so you are not alone, and hopefully it won't be long until some of them stop by to share their experiences and advice.

If you'd like to discuss this further with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to answer your questions about this and give you the support you're seeking at this time.

I know this must be a very scary and stressful time but we are here for you Smalltowngirl and wishing you all the best with your appointment.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
