Waiting for breast Biopsy result

I found a lump in my breast about 3 years ago. I had a cyst previously that felt exactly the same and I thought nothing of the new lump.

Yesterday I went for a mammogram/ ultrasound / biopsy. Its not a cyst. The lump is 6cms. It is a solid lump and has vascularity. However there are some positives, it's well defined, oval shaped and very mobile and theres no sign of any lymph node involvement. I feel so stupid! Why did I ignore this for so long?

The consultant said it has to come out no matter what it is.  The ultrasound technician also seemed very interested in calcification under the lump. I have an appointment for the results next Wednesday. No idea what I'm asking just hoping for some direction on this. I have no idea what to think.

  • Hello MillieMoo123

I'm sorry to hear that you find yourself waiting for the results of a breast biopsy and that you've been told regardless of the diagnosis you will be facing surgery. it's understandable that you may be feeling anxious.

Beating yourself up for not having seen your GP about his lump sooner won't change the news that you receive next week. The important thing is to try and put yourself in a positive mindset ahead of your next appointment. As you say, you've already been given good news about your lymph nodes and whatever treatment may be recommended it will certainly help you if you can approach with a good mindset.

If you think it may help to talk things through with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and information they can as well as helping you think about any questions you may have.

Keep in touch MillieMoo123 and let us know how you get on next week.

    Best wishes,
