Breast biopsy

Hi in February this year I had mastitis and found a lump in my breast. Went to GP was given antibiotics and referred to breast clinic as I'm not breast feeding so gp wanted me to get checked. Had appointment on 27th of March had mammogram and biopsy of the lump.

Received letter on 9th of April to go back to breast clinic on 16th of April mammogram found something so needed a biopsy of what mammogram found and a small chip put into the area then I had another mammogram. My breast has been aching loads since having this done. Still waiting for results I'm really worried as the Dr said possible cancer. Will the biopsy show if it is cancer or would I need more tests. Waiting for results is a nightmare just want to know if it is cancer or if its benign

  • Hi there, yes the biopsy will show if it is cancer or not and if it is, what type. That helps them determine treatment for you also.

Did you have a core needle biopsy?

I agree that the waiting is the absolute worst, it feels like forever and it's very hard to take your mind off if.

I was also quite sore after my biopsy, don't underplay that, you've had disruption to your breast and it takes time to recover.

I hope it's good news for you, it often is, try not to think the worst. Xx

Hi yeah I had the core needle biopsy. The Dr said that if it turns out to be nothing I will get a phone call but if the biopsy finds something I will receive a letter. I'm just praying for a phone call now. Xx

Well how daft to say that to you. If you get a letter you'll be so anxious opening it. I was given an appt for the results four weeks after my biopsies. Then it was brought forward when they had a cancellation.

I've known a few women who have also had core needle biopsies and had negative results, but we all agree that soreness can last a while.

Have you had an ultrasound as well? Xx

Yeah had that done the same day aswell they needed to put a little chip in to mark the area the mammogram found then took samples. Had to have second mammogram after biopsy to make sure the chip in the right place. So think being poked with needles then squashed between to plates probably made me bruise a bit more. X

Yeah I had the little markers put in too. I was reassured they don't set the alarms off in airports. Lol

Oh absolutely, you're squashed in between those plates for quite some time too and more firmly then a regular mammogram during the biopsy.

Plus I think when you're worried about all this, you feel quite delicate anyway.

  • Sorry I didn't finish my message, lol.

I'm guessing you still have a couple of weeks to wait for the results to come back? Xx

Yeah they said about 2 weeks so just keeping everything crossed now. Yeah the Dr told me that the chip won't set off alarms at airport to. I'm hoping I'll here something one day next week I rung them today and they said no results yet xx

So not too long to wait, but feels it I know.

Try and keep busy if you're able. Thinking of you. Xx
