Core needle biopsy

Hi

I would be interested in hearing about anyone’s experience of discomfort and pain after core needle biopsy. One week after I am still badly bruised, sore and experiencing a dull ache and tingling feelings. Tight in the left side of chest (left breast had biopsy) and can’t always take a full breath. Back pains as well. Waiting to hear biopsy results but told at the time 99.9% breast cancer stage 2A although I don’t understand how they can say this until results.

Thank you

  • Hello Sandradee,

I hope that you will hear from others here who have experienced pain and discomfort after a core needle biopsy. It's not uncommon to be a bit sore after a breast biopsy and our website specifies that "you can take paracetamol if your breast is sore or tender" but if the problem persists and you don't notice any improvement, make sure you mention it to your GP. It might be worth getting in touch with your doctor to mention this tightness you have been feeling in your chest and the fact that you can't always take a full breath as well as those back pains you have been experiencing.

I am sorry that you have been told they were pretty sure it was breast cancer, but as you said it's impossible to know for sure what the diagnosis is precisely until you get your results back. You would normally hear back within 1-2 weeks so I am keeping everything crossed for you! Do let us know what you find out if you get a moment when you have had your results.

I hope that the pain and discomfort from the biopsy diminish soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello,

Told yesterday I have invasive stage III and ER negative. Chemotherapy in a couple of weeks for 18 weeks (1 every 3 weeks). Depending on how chemotherapy works a lumpectomy.

    Thank you
