Colonoscopy and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

My husband is booked in for his colonoscopy this Monday. He spoke to someone at the clinic yesterday who went through some details with him (current medications, illnesses etc). He was told that he will be sedated and that he will need his CPAP machine because he has sleep apnoea. Has this happened to anyone here or can anyone tell me why he would need his machine is he won't be fully asleep? Thank you.

  • Hello LunarLou

Sedation can affect people to varying degrees and can leave them feeling quite relaxed and sleepy. By having his CPAP machine with him, this will help the clinical team to make sure that your husband's airway is protected and he can breathe well during the procedure.

It's understandable that you may both be feeling a little anxious ahead of his procedure tomorrow. Try not to worry too much. The hospital team will take good care of him and hopefully they will be able to give him some reassurance about the results once the colonoscopy is completed.
