Hysteroscopy biospy

Hello,

I'm just trying to get some reassurance and maybe chat to some people going through the same thing/waiting.

Around 2 months ago I had an internal ultrasound and it was noted that I had thickened areas in my uterine lining and possible polyp. I was referred to gynaecology and had my appointment today. My symptoms are bleeding between periods and heavy bleeding after a bowel moment (from vagina) and on/off cramping throughout my cycle.

I had a hysteroscopy and the gynaecologist took 2 biopsies of 2 separate areas where he said there are 'unusual growths'. The room went silent. Once I had got dressed I asked the gynaecologist what the liklihood is that it's cancer and he basically didn't really want to give me an answer but said its possible it is or its possible that it's tissue that could turn cancerous in the future.

I wish I would of asked more questions but after being in discomfort and bleeding from the hysteroscopy and biopsies I wanted to just leave.

I have been booked in for a follow-up appointment for 6 weeks time and the gynaecologist said that it takes around 2-4 weeks for the biopsies results to come back so if it's anything "bad" then he will ring me before the 6 week follow up..

I'm just feeling super stressed and upset. I'm 32 years old and planned to start a family in the next year.

  • Hello Amber567

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health concerns which led to biopsies being taken earlier this week. It's understandable that you're feeling stressed and upset by this.

We know that for many people this period of uncertainty whilst waiting for results can be very difficult and it's natural to have questions and concerns. Hopefully when you do speak with the gynaecologist they will be able to give you some reassurance about the results and the next steps.

In the meantime, if you think it may help to talk things through with one of our nurses you're most welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can.

Keep in touch Amber and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Amber 567,

Sorry to hear you’re going through this also. I’ve just had a similar experience of internal scan few months back and then a hysteroscopy on Friday there to remove polyp and investigate thickened lining that was picked up on internal scan. Similar symptoms to yourself also and pain when having bowel/ bladder movements as well as feeling like a have a constant uti.

The wait is horrible and it’s only been two days

  • Hi, I’m in the exact same boat with similar symptoms.
I had my biopsies and polyps removed on Wednesday- I haven’t stopped bleeding since. I also have polycystic ovaries and am HPV positive.
I literally don’t even know what to think- it’s the hardest thing at the moment. I’m 28 so young too.

  • Hello, the wait is horrible isn't it

I'm still bleeding quite heavily after the hysteroscopy I had on Wednesday, I'm wondering when it might calm down a bit. Had quite a bit of pain and clots too

  • Hello,

I had my hysteroscopy Wednesday too and I haven't stopped bleeding yet either.. quite a bit of pain and clots too... not sure if this is normal.

The gynaecologist said it can take anywhere up to 6 weeks for the results, how am I going to wait that long?!?!

  • Pain should subside by 2 weeks as that’s the internal healing time (read that online). Some sites say it is a 2 day recovery but I can assure you mines hasn’t been?
Are you a 2ww? I was told 2-3 weeks results, 6 weeks for a follow up appointment

  • Yes the gynaecologist said it usually takes 2-3 weeks for results and if its anything 'bad' then I will be contacted , otherwise it's a follow up appointment in 6 weeks with whatever they find as long as it's nothing urgent.
