Possible cervical cancer

I’m not sure why I’m posting think I am just confused. I have had abnormal bleeding for over a year now, when I first approached my GP last summer I was told it would be my coil that was fitted March 23 to let it settle. I went again in November and asked for it out due to the pain everyday and especially during intercourse and my GP refused, I asked for a smear test as I have had 3 kids and was told “girls your age don’t get cervical cancer as you got your PVG jab in high school” (I’m 24)

I went and got a second opinion, had my coil removed and still 6 months later having the bleeding, but also between periods, after intercourse, have severe pain in my pelvis and lower back constantly and the blood is constantly black. I have been cleared for all STIs (as I should) but my doctor has made an urgent referral to gynaecology after something showed in my bloods last week too. He said it had to be checked to ensure nothing more sinister was going on but wouldn’t give much more info.

2 years ago I was wrongly diagnosed with Lymphoma due to a typo in my biopsy report but I do have an issue with my lymph nodes which makes them very reactive so having to go through this all again is really making me worry.

  • Hello ChloC

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been through with your gynaecological health over the past year, particularly that the first GP wasn't supportive in trying to improve things for you.

It's good to hear that you sought a second opinion and that the GP has now referred you for further investigations. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

There could be a number of reasons for the symptoms that you've described but the important thing is to try and remain positive and hopefully, you won't have to wait too long to see the gynaecology team.

In the meantime, I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch ChloC and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
