The NHS can move fast/going straight to a WLE near my eye?

Hi,

as a bit of a background, I have been feeling ill for about 6 months, my wife reminded me last week that I spent most of the Christmas break sleeping. Anyway I saw my GP late evening on 03/04 for the first time ever, and mentioned a lump on the side of my face between my nose and my eye. I have had it for a while and it has gotten bigger the last couple of weeks and has been bleeding. She said she would put me on a 2ww referral to dermatology and mentioned squamous cell carcinoma. I had blood tests and X-ray 8am the following day and five days later I saw the dermatologist. He said he does not know what the lump is but has referred me straight for a WLE this coming week, along with reconstructive plastic surgery.  I am not bothered about this from an aesthetic perspective at all but would have assumed that he would have taken a sample first to check what it is before the hassle of a WLE, especially considering where it is?

  • Hello NotSignificant and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

Although I can't answer your question about this, we do have a very informative team of cancer nurses that may be able to help, so if you'd like to speak with them about this, and anything else that is playing on your mind, don't hesitate to give them a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully you will receive some support and advice from our members who have been in a similar position soon but in the meantime, we're thinking of you NotSignificant and wishing you all the best with your WLE.

    Kind regards,
