Waiting for breast biopsy results

Hi all. Looking to find out if anyone been in similar position to mine for an idea of possible outcome. Went to doctors 2 weeks ago as felt a small lump in Breast. Had pain in the area week before with stinging in nipple which drew my attention to the area. The pain and stinging subsided when my period started but that week I felt a small lump. Seen a nurse practitioner who said it was soft, moveable, well defined and didn’t feel anything concerning. Suspected cyst but said would refer me to breast clinic as over 30. I wanted to see my own doctor so I called up next morning and went back in to see my own doctor. I was in a bit of state as this is like my biggest phobia anything sinister in breasts. She felt it and said she was not worried about it atall. Felt like a blocked duct she said as goes in a line. Was at the breast clinic yesterday. Consultant examined me and said it didn’t feel concerning or worrying. No puckering or dimpling etc in the area. It is slightly tender to touch and still getting some intermittent pain in the area but both my breast have felt slightly tender recently. Also to add gp’s felt no raised nodes in armpit either. Had mammogram then ultrasound. The guy doing the ultrasound seemed to concentrate on my armpit area longer than the lump. When he was finished he said that some of the nodes in the armpit were slightly raised not alot but enough for him to want to do a biopsy on the lump and nodes. He did say boxes could just be reactive to something else.  Lump is solid he confirmed. He said could be solid due to fluid solidifying also though. He would not be swayed either way is to whether he is thinking begnin or malignant. Said he was totally on the fence. Lump well defined and not typical of a cancer. Went back to speak with consultant he said come back next week for results but when he was pushed he still doesn’t think cancer. He is thinking fibroadoma. I came away after 4 hours just feeling not any further forward either way after 2 weeks of waiting for appointment. I just don’t know what to think. Anyone else been in similar position to this and had a positive outcome ?? I just keep thinking how can 3 health professionals feel it and all say it doesn’t feel sinister for it to be sinister. Also I had a mammogram 2 years ago. Lump is 2cm. Thanks

  • Hello Jo1915,

A very warm welcome to our forum and I hope that you will hear from the experiences of others here who have previously been in a similar position. You did absolutely the right thing in getting this lump checked two weeks ago and it's reassuring that you were told by the nurse practitioner that it wasn't anything concerning but it's good that you were still referred to the breast clinic. Talking to your own doctor was also a good idea and it sounds like she wasn't concerned either. It sounds like they were very thorough during the ultrasound and even though it is extremely stressful to be waiting for results, at least you will know for sure when the results come through. You seem to be looked after very well and it is very reassuring that 3 health professionals don't feel it's anything sinister. Of course you need to now just wait for these results which will hopefully confirm their suspicions that it is nothing concerning. Waiting is by no means easy as many of our members will know only too well and I thought I would share with you helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Keeping everything tightly crossed for you that it all turns out to be as suspected that is nothing to worry about. Keep us updated if you get a chance when you find out more!

    Best wishes,
