Health anxiety

I am 99% sure that I have self-inflicted cancer from aspirin. I am beside myself waiting for test results. The guilt is killing me but my husband is in complete denial. He thinks it's my health anxiety.

  • Hello fresia987,

Welcome to the forum although I'm very sorry for the impact your health anxiety is having. It can be scary when you are waiting for results of tests and easy to imagine the worst. You’ve taken the first step by talking to your GP but there is no such thing as self inflicted cancer. We have some information about aspirin on our website and as you will see,  if anything, aspirin is associated with helping in preventing cancer rather than causing it.

Getting anxious will only exacerbate your symptoms. Our website has a lot of useful advice about managing your anxiety and looking after your mental health  and the charity Anxiety UK have a lot of information and resources, as well as a helpline you can call, that may prove useful as well. We also have a comprehensive article about how to cope when you’re waiting for news

Waiting is agony but many of our members know how tough it can be to live with health anxiety so hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice . In the meantime, If you'd like to discuss this further with one of our nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    All the best,

    Moderator Anastasia
