Had hysteroscopy & polypectomy today - waiting begins

Hi all, nearly 53 and post menopausal. had 10 days of bleeding in Feb. then a few weeks later had bad cramping and pelvic/hip pain.

GP 5th March

private referral 7th March

1st appointment with Consultant Gynaecologist Oncologist 14th March

Trans vaginal and abdominal ultrasound 18th March

Hysteroscopy & polypectomy on 6th April under general anaesthetic, got home 90 mins ago.

Consultant stated 2 polyps on cervix which he removed, took biopsies from cervix and part of uterus. However, he said he good not get all the way up in the uterus due to scarring. He was unable to explain the scarring as I have never had any trauma or surgery to that part and had 2 normal births. So now the waiting game begins. Results hopefully be back from the lab in a couple of weeks.

Everyone was so nice at the hospital, so pleased I went there.

Trying to remain positive.

  • Hello Catsandtrees

Thank you for sharing your post over the weekend. I'm glad to hear that your experience at the hospital was so positive and I hope that you are feeling rested and recovering well from your procedure.

We know that for many people this period of waiting for results can be difficult. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for news and the team will be able to give you some reassurance.

In the meantime, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can.

Do keep in touch Catsandtrees and let's know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Have my appointment for my histology results on 25th April. Fingers crossed

  • Hey I have similar issues. I had hysterectomy and biopsy on Monday and the doctor said I have a lot of polyps some are yellow in colour and some black.  The consultant said he was worried and would let me know within 2 weeks. I’m finding the wait so difficult. Hope your appointment went well today

  • Hi,

well had my results appointment this evening. Very very pleased to say that there was no cancer or pre-cancer found.

Consultant could not explain the scarring and not really sure why I continue to have bad pelvic pain and cramping, so he has recommended a hysterectomy to include the ovaries and tubes. This will be keyhole.

Will be in contact with his secretary tomorrow to get it all booked in.

To say I am relieved is an understatement.

Wishing all those going through the various stages of diagnosis and treatment well.

  • So happy for you.

how long did it take for you to get your biopsy report.

the 2 week wait is too long

  • hi, they actually came back 12 days later but that is private not nhs
