Son undergoing tests

Looking for advice from someone who has been through similar.
my two year old has had enlarged nodes in neck and groin from Dec.
Last month, the one in his neck really took off so we took him to A&E. they took bloods and his inflammation markers were high but wbc was only slightly raised. Prescribed antibiotic and referred for ultrasound. First ultrasound showed no improvement after antibiotics. Repeat ultrasound 3 weeks later. Size slightly reduced but they said it was the wrong shape, texture looked wrong and something about the blood flow. He has been referred to a consultant under paediatric medicine to see about a biopsy and has another repeat scan next week.

the only B symptoms he has is extreme itching in his scalp and weight loss, although I wouldn’t say the weight loss is very significant.
this week the lymph node has turned very red and angry. No temps still, and it certainly isn’t sore.
is the redness a good sign that it’s infection? Can a cancerous lymph node be red but not tender?

any personal experiences would really be welcome!

thanks in advance

  • Hi Ss1111,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Unfortunately it is difficult to advise on your questions - though it is good to hear it is being investigated and that you should hopefully hear more soon following those tests.

You may find it helpful to speak to one of our nurses in the meantime, if you would like to, although they can only provide general information. You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Otherwise, if anyone here has similar experience to share then hopefully you'll get some more replies.

I hope you're able to find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
