Terrified - fibroids have grown and could be a sarcoma

I suffered for a number of years with fibroids which have been monitored at the women’s clinic. Last apt in Jan this year said no change’s,  largest one was 6.5cm and this expected to shrink as menopause hits …so no problems I thought. In Feb I had what I thought was a uti but  lab test was negative. I go for ultrasound mid March which shows Pressure on my kidneys believed to be due to fibroids. Gp referred me back to Womens clinic who downgrade my referral to non urgent, no appointment till july.  Stunned by that I decided to see a private consultant and had mri. Result came back, the large fibroid had grown another 2.5cm &  couldn’t be ruled out as sarcoma.  ive now been referred back to nhs and  waiting for urgent mdt due on 10th. I’m absolutely distraught. At the very least i think I’ll need  a total open hysterectomy but from what I’ve read,  the prognosis for this type of aggressive cancer is extremely poor, I’m a total mess, and can’t manage to eat or sleep. Nothing that I’ve been told seems to offer any hope.  I contacted the hospital as I didnt understand the reason for MDT, they said someone will call me after mdt to update me.   I need to know but I  don’t think I’m going to cope with what they say.

  • Hello Ruby24,

You did well to get this looked at again so that you could find out the large fibroid had grown another 2.5cm and it's good that you have now been referred back to the NHS and that you will be seen in just a few days.  It's normal to be worried as they said that sarcoma could not be ruled out but try not to anticipate the worst if you can as there could be other causes too to this fibroid growing in size and causing these issues. If you can try not to look anything up on Google or online until you get your results as Google will inevitably show the worst possible cases. I am keeping everything crossed for you - only a few days to wait now until the MDT and I hope that you will be updated soon and that you will find out more next week.

Other members of our community will have been through something similar before with fibroids and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
