Advice to help with the worry

Hi, found a lump in my breast about a month ago that since developed what feels like a hollow in the lower right side of my left breast. I saw a GP on Tuesday who confirmed the same and made a 2 week referral to the breast unit.

She did say it could be a blocked duct or cyst, not necessarily C, but wanted it checking ASAP.

I dont want to sit here worrying for something that could be very minor, but I'm finding myself googling everyday! Has anyone else had a similar experience, lumps or hollows in the same place?

Anything to help me cope with the worry? So many people around me have been diagnosed with BC in the last 4 years. I'm just so worried.

Thanks Kate

  • Hello Kate

I'm sorry to hear that you have some concerns about your breast health at the moment. You've done exactly the right thing in seeking advice from your Gp and it's good to know that a referral to the breast clinic has already been made.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult and many people turn to the internet looking for answers. Please stop googling Kate. The information you find won't give you a diagnosis but it will leave you feeling more worried and anxious. Instead, it may help you to try and keep in mind that the large majority of people who are seen in breast clinics are not diagnosed with cancer. As your GP has said, there could be other causes for the changes that you've noticed and hopefully, the team will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them.

In the meantime, if you think it may help to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice and support they can.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
