Post menstrual spotting

Hello, I am 75 years and very active.  Finished periods at around 40 years old. Just recently found a small smear of blood so saw doctor the next day.  Had internal she could not see anything with the camera that she inserted, I was then referred to hospital. They scanned me and found that my womb lining was 7mm.  They took a biopsy there and then which was excruciatingly painful.  At this time they said my ovaries and uterus were fine.  So now I am having to wait 2/4 weeks for results.  I am so low and finding it hard to eat or indeed be bothered to do anything, I am so worried, this has affected me so badly.  Does anyone know or have found out how, maybe, you can get results earlier.

  • Hello Bella09,

I am so sorry to hear you are feeling understandably worried as you are waiting for your womb biopsy results. According to the information on womb biopsies on our website, results tend to take normally 2 weeks but there may be delays or it may depend on where you live but you could try ringing the doctor who arranged the biopsy if you haven't heard anything back after two weeks or the hospital to try and chase these results. You could mention to your doctor that this is making you feel really low and that you are struggling to eat as a result. It's reassuring news that they have told you that your ovaries and uterus were fine. It is normal to be worried in a situation like this and I hope that you will hear from others who have been in a similar place before and that they will share their experiences with you. In the meantime, there are helpful tips on the SAGA website to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Keeping everything tightly crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern and that you get your results very soon,

  • Hi Bella just wanted to say I understand how worrying it is when waiting for results ,I went through the same just over a year ago ,I had biopsies done and its very hard not to think about it ,my results took around 2weeks which I received by letter and thankfully it was good news, like you they told me things looked fine but still removed polyps and biopsies of lining etc to check ,its good that you are getting checked out .
