Appointment with urology surgeon has finally come through

I was phoned at lunchtime with an NHS Urology appointment on the 23rd April. We have been waiting for the results of the MDT which still haven’t come through. The Consultant is a Urological surgeon. I am wondering whether this is normal to have an appointment in clinic like this? It might be to discuss surgery ? I feel relieved and have already been to the GP for sleeping tablets this morning. The anxiety around the wait is not something I would wish on anybody.

  • Hello EJ7861

I'm glad to hear that you've finally had an appointment date come through. Hopefully this will help with the anxiety that comes with waiting for news.

At the moment I wouldn't read too much into the title of the specialist that you're due to see. Often the title surgeon is attached to a Consultant's name but it doesn't mean that surgery is the only way they have of treating the particular problem in question.

The good news is that you now have an appointment date and hopefully when you see the Dr they will be able to give you some answers and reassurance about your diagnosis and the proposed next steps.

If there's anything you'd like to talk through with one of our nurses ahead of that appointment you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,

  • My appointment has been moved to the 16th April. I am slightly worried because we are being seen at the end of clinic again. The last time this happened my appointment was cancelled. We saw a Urologist on Tuesday privately. His specialty is kidney stones. I have a kidney mass. He was able to ally some of of my fears and we talked about possible surgery and biopsy. I did get to see my tumour on the screen. I feel a lot better about all this much less depressed.
