has anyone had several enlarged lymph nodes in neck and an enlarged goitre thyroid gland on one side - if so, what did it turn out to be for you?

Hello - I posted on here a couple of weeks back about enlarged lymph nodes on neck.  I was urgently referred by my dr for an ENT appt which I have now had.   At that appointment the ENT dr pointed out that aswell as my enlarged lymph nodes in my neck, I also have an enlarged thryoid gland on one side, which he called a goitre.

I was then urgently referred again for an US and biopsy which I found out yesterday is on 10th April.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thank you x

  • I am not sure how I didnt notice the swelling in the front of my neck before now the dr pointed it out to me.  It is not hugely obviously looking at me, but you can see it and certainly feel the difference when you compare it to be my left side

  • I recently has a US and biopsy and the result came back as inconclusive but it was given a thy3a.

There's an MDT meeting today to discuss the result and next steps.

By the way, I didn't notice the lump but it was picked up following a PET/CT scan for something else.

  • Was your biopsy on enlarged lymph nodes on neck or thyroid?

    Good luck for today x

  • The lymph nodes were in the upper cervical region - which is part of the neck. As it happens, when they were looked at during the US they appeared "entirely normal". So they didn't even do a biopsy of them.

The biopsy (simple and painless) was only taken of the nodule in the thyroid isthmus (a bridge of tissue which crosses over the front of the windpipe).

Quite frankly, I had no idea that I even had a nodule until the PET/CT scan was done. Of course, I can feel it now - it measures 1.7 x 0.7 x 1.7 cm!

    Best wishes x
