Waiting to be told…

Hi, After 3 cancelled operation's, I finally had a tumour and some lymph nodes removed from my neck on Feb 6th, all along I was told the chances of them being cancerous were close to zero but a month after the op the biopsy results came back showing that both were cancerous and were secondary cancers, I was booked in for CT & MRI scans and a MDT meeting has taken place to discuss the results, this was 2 weeks ago and I’m still no closer to finding out what was discussed and if they found a primary cancer.
My question is how long does all this take?? I naively thought once you’re told you have cancer things would move along quite quickly but this doesn’t seem to be the case, I know I’m not alone in this happening but it affects so much, it’s causing so much stress to myself and my family with the not knowing ️

  • Thanks, all done now.

Depending on what the PET Scan finds,  I’ll either be having 6 weeks of Radiotherapy on my neck/parotid gland or if the tumours are showing as cancerous in my lung it will be a combination of radio/chemotherapy.

Another week of waiting now, but at least I know what I’m up against and possible treatments.

  • Good luck with your scan results!

  • Good luck with your treatment ,  you must be all over the place at minute. So much to take in .

What is a pet scan sorry to ask  ,never heard of this.  I hope all the best with these results.Would it be okay to hear how your treatment goes.

Thinking of you and best wishes . I think it helps others to hear from your parotid  journey .

  • I’d never heard of a PET Scan either, this whole journey has been a massive learning curve.

A PET Scan will show up any cancers in your body, it was explained to me today as cancer feeds off sugar and so you go into the scan having not eaten for 6 hours you then get injected with a radioactive glucose which circulates round your body for an hour attaching itself to anything cancerous in your body, then you get scanned. I’ll get the results of that next week and depending on what they find will determine what treatment I have.

I was told treatment would then start in 3 to 4 weeks, he said there is a lot to sort out before it can begin.

  • Thanks,  learning this everyday.

I'm  finding out new medical terms. Yeah means alot you taking the time to explain.

Again thanks for your time. Good luck with the next few weeks and results . Stay strong so much to deal with . Thoughts with you on your journey.
