Lump on Right Side of Neck- very scared

Hello Everyone....I have been reading through the forum for sometime and wanted to see if anyone had any advice or words of encouragement.

A few days ago after burying my father I just happen to be rubbing my neck and to my surprise there seemed to be a lump on the front right side in the middle of the neck. At first I thought it was a razer bump but now I don't feel it is. The lump isn't painful at all and I can't tell if it moves as I feel it does move a bit. I also don't know the difference between rubbery or hard.

This has seriously affected my mental health after I made the mistake of googling. I have no other symptoms of any cancer I could research. Able to exercise and not short of breath. Very energetic, no rashes. So no symptoms at all.

I did have a necrotic tooth taken care of 2-3 weeks ago which was causing me pain for 3 months. After the tooth was cleaned and filling done I was in serious pain for 2 weeks but resolved itself about a week ago or so. Could this be the cause

I have an appointment with the GP on Thursday but I am terrified. I just turned 40, don't drink at all, no smoking so try to lead a healthy lifestyle. I rarely get sick with any colds or flu.

Any advice or words of encouragement as I feel truly alone right now because all my family are in other parts of the world. What is the probability of having no other symptoms and just seems so random.

Anything would be amazing and Huge thank you for the support.

  • Hi Russell and welcome to the forum.

First of all, I'm very sorry to hear your dad has passed away recently. This must be a very difficult time. You have our sincerest condolences.

I'm also sorry to hear about the lump you've found on the side of your neck and for the worry this is causing. The good thing is you've booked yourself in at your GP and hopefully you will be able to get some answers and much needed peace of mind when you see them on Thursday.

Our members know how scary it can be finding lumps like these without any symptoms or obvious cause, so you are not alone, and hopefully you will receive some support and advice from them soon.

In the meantime, we're wishing you all the best for Thursday and will have our fingers crossed for a good outcome.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Russell,

sorry to hear about your loss and finding a lump, it’s scary and a worrying wait for your appointment.
Don’t be surprised if the GP puts you on antibiotics to start with, from what mine told me, Lymphnodes will swell when fighting an infection, which might be related to your tooth, after a round of antibiotics if the lumps still there they may do blood tests or a wait and see if the lump doesn’t feel hard.

I found a lump in November, put it down to being run down, fast forward to March after a round of antibiotics for a possible chest infection in January and I told my doc about the lump, blood tests ordered and a scan booked in.
the vast majority of lumps are not related to cancer so try not to think the worst.
    Good lunch today
