Been waiting over 6 weeks for biopsy results

Hi I’m new here, I’m 60 years old and post menopausal, had premature menopause at 32. Started bleeding March’23 and finally plucked up the courage to see a doctor end of July. Got urgent appointment at hospital 1st Aug and had ultrasound where endometrial thickness was 21mm. Had to have hysteroscopy where they found and removed very large polyp. I thought they’d done endometrial biopsy as well but once got results saying polyp was benign, saw they hadn’t done so. Anyway moving on, there was no follow up appointment and as I still continued to bleed I contacted my gp and explained still bleeding, etc so had another appointment with consultant' 10 th Feb ‘24 had full examination, and endometrial biopsy plus another scan. I know my scan results were showing endometrial thickness is still 21mm because I asked person doing scan if my wall had gone back to normal after polyp removal and they said no still the same. So at this point in time I have still not received any results regarding biopsy or scan, this is seriously affecting my mental health and is really getting me down not knowing why results are taking so long. Has anyone else had to wait this long? The first time scan and polyp biopsy only took 3 weeks. Sorry for the long post.

  • Hello Yvette1942,

A very warm welcome to our friendly forum. You did well to flag this post menopausal bleeding you experienced with the doctor at the end of July and again when you noticed that you were still bleeding it was a good idea to go back to the doctor's. You've been waiting a long time for these biopsy and scan results as you would normally expect to hear back within a couple of weeks. As this is also affecting your mental health, it definitely wouldn't be unreasonable to give your surgery a ring and try and get them to chase these results for you. So don't feel shy about getting in touch with them and explain that you have been waiting for 6 weeks and if they could update you as to why there has been a delay and if they could also let you know when you should be getting these important results.

Waiting for results is not easy especially when it drags on as it has done for you. I thought I would also share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news. Once the Easter long weekend is over, do give them a call and chase these results; you will feel a lot better when you have some clarity on what is going on and why it is taking so long. Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine! Do let us know what you find out if you get a moment.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Lucie, thank you so much for replying to my post. I will definitely take your advice and contact my GP and will also try ringing the clinic at the hospital to see if I can get any further information regarding my scan and biopsy results.
    kind regards.
