Borderline calprotectin

Can a borderline level of 93 in a calprotectin test indicate colon cancer?

  • Hello Rosielee,

Calprotectin can be raised for a number of reasons which do not necessarily indicate colon cancer so it's hard to know what this result means.  The doctors will evaluate this test result along with any symptoms and decide whether to do follow up tests to get more information. I've found information from an NHS hospital on faecal calprotectin which I hope you will find helpful.

It is so difficult when waiting for answers and results but trying to keep busy each day so your mind is distracted may help time pass and try and keep well away from the temptation to look things up online as it will only make your anxiety worse. This article from SAGA has helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news. Other members of our community may have received similar borderline results and I hope that they will share their diagnosis experiences with you but it is worth bearing in mind that everyone is different and therefore caprotectin levels can be slightly raised for different reasons which are not necessarily the same as you.

Take care, and I hope you find out more about your situation soon.

    Best wishes,
