At what point do I go back to the hospital

I went to the drs a week ago about abdominal pain, couldn’t see or feel anything wrong and urine came back clear so booked me in for bloods two days later. That night the pain got worse I worried it was my appendix so I went to A&E. after 5 hours of waiting a nurse said it wasn’t my appendix as I would be in more pain and then they “examined” me by only pressing on my bladder (which was full) and not were my pain was. I was then given three days of water infection tablets despite her telling me that would have caused different symptoms. She said just wait for your blood tests.

my bloods came back clear of infection so I went in for another exam on Friday this was now three days since my first. There was now a pea sized lump next to my belly button. I was given tables for a cysts and referred for an urgent ultrasound to check it wasnt anything more sinister. By Monday the lump had doubled in size so I went back to the drs saw another nurse who said they can’t do anything more as it’s already been referred as urgent and to get back to them in a few weeks if I’ve not heard about my scan.

my scan is now booked for a weeks time but the lump is now bigger than a golf ball. That’s 5 days since it was a pea. It is causing me so much pain I can’t even stand up straight or roll over in bed. The rate of growth is scaring me. Do I just wait another 6 days for my scan or at what point to I got back to the hospital???

  • Hello Sarah-ann

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently dealing with a worsening health concern and that as a result, you're now waiting for a scan.

If you're still feeling concerned or things worsen over the weekend then don't forget that you can call NHS 111 for clinical advice.

Hopefully you will get some answers soon and the Dr's will then be able to look to improve your health situation.

    Best wishes,

  • Call 111 and tell them how much it has grown and the pain you are now in.
They may advise you to attend the ED.

    Good luck
