Waiting for biopsy results for melanoma

I had a mole removed 4 weeks ago. I have just received a follow up appointment for 5 weeks time. Am I to assume that I will be told that it is Melanoma? I am guessing if it was benign I would have been told this in a letter.

5 weeks seems like a long time to wait so would rather have an idea to prepare myself a bit better.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

thanks

  • Hello and welcome to Cancer Chat, L.adele.

Waiting for biopsy results can be an anxious time, and it's understandable that you're seeking some clarity during this waiting period. While I can't predict the outcome of your biopsy, it's essential to try to remain patient and avoid jumping to conclusions.

The length of time it takes to receive biopsy results can vary depending on various factors, including the complexity of the analysis and the workload of the laboratory. It's also important to remember that the absence of immediate communication about the results does not necessarily indicate a negative outcome. Sometimes, doctors may prefer to discuss results in person rather than through a letter.

During this waiting period, try to focus on self care and finding ways to manage your anxiety. It might be a good idea to reach out to your medical team if you have any concerns or questions about the process.

I hope you receive positive news soon, but regardless of the outcome, remember that you are not alone, we're always here if you need a chat.

    All the best,
