Skin cancer biopsies with infection at melanoma biopsy

I’ve had skin cancer twice and had a squamous cell on my arm removed a few years ago with Mohs surgery. It appeared another squamous cell carcinoma was growing below my skin cancer I had removed a few years ago so I went in for a biopsy a few days ago. When the dermatologist said he wanted to biopsy it, I asked him to check another spot that’s been changing over the past year. He ended up taking two biopsies and the unexpected one was for melanoma. Now I think the melanoma biopsy is getting infected because it’s getting redder and has a little pus when I clean it- I sure hope this one is benign. I think the one on my arm is another skin cancer but hoping my chest comes back benign and the infection doesn’t cause more problems. I will call the doctor if the antibiotic cream I have doesn’t help.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your history with skin cancer and that you think there may be a slight infection where your biopsy was taken.

I hope the antibiotic cream you've been using has helped, but if things haven't improved, or got worse, do let your doctor know so they can take a look at this for you.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their support and advice, but if you'd like to discuss any of this with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're thinking of you Elizabeth and will have fingers crossed the biopsy results bring good news when they come through.

    Kind regards,
