Initial appointment

So I had an appointment booked within two weeks as a lump I had checked last year (it was fine) had changed. The mammogram showed nothing untoward and I went for the ultrasound. Whilst they were doing this they said they could see a cluster of lumps or possibly cysts and took fluid and tissue samples. Within 20 minutes I saw another nurse who told me the images were very worrying and looked like cancer. I have to wait now for the follow up appointment which will be next week.
Lots of friends and family have been telling me not to worry and saying they’ve had this situation and the results have been clear. Surely though I wouldn’t be told something looked like cancer and was very worrying without them being fairly sure? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Sarah although I'm sorry to hear about the cluster of lumps/possible cysts that were found during your ultrasound.

I know this must be very worrying, especially after what the nurse said to you, but many of our members have been in a similar position, so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to offer you their support and share their experiences and advice.

If you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday (except bank holidays) between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to help.

I hope this article I've found on how to cope with waiting for the news will help keep your worries at bay over the bank holiday weekend but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Sarah and wishing you all the best for next week.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Thank you so much for your kind words. I’ve been so up and down over the last few days and keep replaying the nurses words which isn’t helpful at all. I’d honestly rather not have known anything I think and been told when the results came in. However? I have my appointment tomorrow and should know more. Do I have cancer? What’s the plan etc… then I can focus on the next stage
