Any advice?

Hi,

I hope you are all well

Around 4 weeks ago, my areola turned dark in colour. 3weeks ago, it started getting dry and peeling. I thought it’s normal and moisturised well. Then it became uncomfortable and the drying area now covered my whole areola. Right now it’s drying the area around it on the actual breast. (This is all on the right breast)

My left side has recently started to be dry too.

I tried to get a GP appointment today but appointments unavailable (as usual)

I did some research (shouldn’t have) and suggests that this may be Paget’s disease of the breast (which is a starter to breast cancer) and it gets mistaken for eczema (which is what I thought)

I just want to know if my issue actually related to a type of breast cancer so I can understand the urgency of finding treatment. Please be honest.

I Know you can’t diagnose me but if this is similar to anything you’ve experienced, please let me know.

Thank you.

I really appreciate it

  • Hello Hopeinlife

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some concerns about your breast health recently and that despite contacting your GP surgery you've been unable to arrange an appointment yet. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

It's not possible for us to say if the changes that you've noticed are something to be concerned about or not. Your GP will be will the best person to examine and assess these changes and arrange any appropriate tests or referrals. Do get in touch with the surgery again next week to try to arrange an appointment.

In the meantime try not to search the internet for answers as we know that this often leaves people feeling even more worried. If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you can get some reassurance soon.

    Best wishes,
