Breast biopsy

Hi my name is Karen! I am 51yrs old. I went for a breast biopsy 3 weeks ago and was told that the tissue was normal and had no signs of  calcification, however I got a phone and had to go for another biopsy on Tuesday morning. The biopsy was from a different part of the breast this time as they think it is calcifications but can’t be sure  as the biopsy was unsuccessful as they couldn’t get to it. I was then told the doctors might leave me a year and monitor to see if what they think is calcifications change in shape or size.  Any advice as I’m sick with worry. Thank you

  • Hi Karen46,

I can understand your concerns especially if it feels like there is some confusion or uncertainty around this. It's good to hear though that they are being thorough in asking for the second biopsy and with the ongoing monitoring.

You say they might leave you a year - I'm not sure if you have yet been told this for sure or not, or whether you are waiting to hear. Either way, if you have any concerns about next steps, or any questions about what's happened so far, do be sure to talk these through with your doctor as it's important that you can get the information and answers that you need.

If you'd like to at any point, you are also welcome to give our nurses a call if you'd like to talk things through. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,
