Positive fit test and low blood stores

Hi I'm isabel. My GP phoned me and told me my stool sample came back positive and she was sending me for a colonoscopy if that was OK. Previous to that I had full blood count taken and she said I had low iron storage but I wasn't anaemic and put me on ferrous fumerate which has caused me to be constipated.  I had to strain to do the toilet so as I could put sample in. I have a consultation on Monday regarding my colonoscopy but I'm worried sick incase it's cancer. I had breast cancer 15 years ago had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy and put on tamoxifen for 10 years. I am now off everything  and have been feeling fine but it's on my mind 24/7. Has anyone else felt the same

  • Hello Isabel,

I'm sorry to hear about your recent health concerns. It's understandable to feel worried, especially with your history of breast cancer. Your GP scheduling a colonoscopy shows they're being proactive, which is positive.

Your consultation on Monday it might be a good idea to write down any questions or concerns you have beforehand. In the meantime, try to focus on activities that help you relax.

Hopefully, others who have had similar experiences will come along shortly to offer advice. That being said, if you feel like asking some questions to our team of nurses before your next appointment, they'd be happy to talk things over with you Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the best,

  • Hi Isabel just read your post. I’m in a similar situation in that I have had a positive FIT result. Like you I’m extremely worried and it’s nice to talk to someone going through the same worries. I’m waiting for a date for a colonoscopy which I’m dreading but want to get it out of the way to get some answers. Hope you’re feeling ok x

  • Hi. I had my consultation last week and doctor did rectal exam and said he could feel a polyp.  I've had a ct scan so just waiting on results. I get my colonoscopy on the 10th and I'm also getting an endoscopy same day to see if my helicobacter pylori has come back. Not looking forward to the prep as I've read it's not nice. Hope you hear soon. It's the waiting and not knowing that's the worst x

  • Hi. Well had the endoscopy and colonoscopy.  Endoscopy was normal but they took a 20mm sessile  polyp from my rectum. Now I have to wait 8 to 12 weeks for biopsy results. Will be worried sick

  • Hi Isabel glad you’ve got it over and done with. Hopefully it will all be fine for you - try not to think about it any more - easier said than done! I’ve got mine on Monday - dreading it and worried sick. I’ve had nothing but aches snd pains and rumbling in my stomach / I’m sure the  mistress is making it worse! Let me know how you get on - I’m sure it will be fine xx

  • Sorry about the typo / meant stress not mistress!!
