Uterine polyp being removed under general on Monday

Hi I’ve been suffering with abdominal pain for about five months now, thought it may have been kidney stone or cyst on my ovary. I’m on the mini pill, for about 10 years now so not bled in a long time and I’ve just turned 50. Went in for a colposcopy under local and a biopsy three weeks ago, it was one of the most painful experiences in my life and I like to think I’m not soft. My cervix wouldn’t open enough for the camera so they couldn’t cut out the polyp but did manage to take a biopsy. (My cervix never dilated when I had my two boys, resulted in sections. )I was a hot sweaty mess and throwing up. I’m going in on Monday under general and worried my cervix may get damaged. Also, do women get abdominal pain with just one polyp? It is small apparently from the trans vaginal ultrasound. Still not got results from biopsy. I feel so tired too!

  • Hi, I am currently undergoing tests to rule out Endometrial cancer. I am 52, been in HRT for 18 months. I had 10 days of bleeding/spotting in Feb and have since had lower abdomen cramping and pain in my pelvis.

I had a TV and abdominal ultrasound on Monday. They said there is something on my cervix which totally through me. They said it might be a small polyp but did not commit. My endometrial thickness is 6mm.  I am waiting for an appointment for a hysteroscopy which will be under general anaesthetic.

I am now wondering if I will need a colonoscopy as well.

I really would hope that they would not damage your cervix. They are experts in their field surely.

I am hoping mine is a polyp and not something nasty but like yourself wondering if a polyp can cause pain and in addition bleeding etc.

The waiting is the hardest thing for me at the moment. My consultant is on holiday and I have to wait 4 weeks till the hysteroscopy.

    Wishing you good luck.

  • Hey thanks for replying! How do you know about the endometrial thickness? Was that found from the camera? Just want to get Monday over with. This pain is draining me. I agree, the waiting and not knowing is the worst part. Lots of good luck to you, fingers crossed it’s ‘just’ a polyp. Please update me?

  • Hi, I asked the chap who did the TV ultrasound. Had to ask him twice. He kept saying it is for my consultant to interpret the scan results but he eventually told me the thickness.

At least you are under general on Monday and won’t know nothing about it. When you go in on Monday maybe you can ask then but you will see a consultant anyway surely after your procedure at some point.

    I too have 2 boys, 21 and 23
