Go private? Referred for a colonoscopy on the NHS but no idea how long it will be

I had a sigmoidoscopy yesterday after very slight bleeding, and they found two polyps. I’ve been referred for a full colonoscopy but no idea when and I can’t stop worrying. I am looking at the option of going private but worried it will mess up the process. Does anyone know if it’s easy enough to transfer from the NHS to private treatment?

  • Hello Upallnight and thanks for posting.

It's understandable that waiting for further testing and not knowing when your colonoscopy will be can be stressful.

Regarding transferring from NHS to private treatment, while it may be possible, you may want to communicate openly with both your NHS healthcare provider and any private provider you're considering to ensure continuity of care and avoid any potential delays or complications. They should be able to provide you with guidance on how to proceed and any necessary steps to ensure a smooth transition.

Hopefully others with similar experiences will be here soon with better advice. Until they do, feel like asking someone with a medical background some questions, feel free to ring our team of nurses. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040

Last but not least I hope everything works out for you.

    Best wishes,
