Consultant worried could be breast cancer

Hi I attended breast clinic today.I had found a lump in my left breast and referred by GP.Im 52 years old,Mammogram didn't show anything. However when the consultant examined me he could feel the lump i could and requested an ultrasound. However after an ultrasound, I had 2 biopsies in my breast and in my armpit and clips. The second mammogram still didnt show anything.Yet the consultant said he was worried it could be cancer.Should I have been yltold this before the results of my biopsy.

  • Hello buds

I think most consultants no the characteristics and are most sure as they see this everyday , I was told that mine looked like cancer before my biopsy results biopsy confirmed breast cancer unfortunately however the only way to 100 % be sure is biopsy results but I feel they sort of tell you to prepare you .

my diagnosis was July 22 I’m fully recovered now and the whole experience is no where near as bad as you think wishing you lots of luck going forward love Lara x

  • Hi Lara,

Thank you,my feeling is they wouldn't say the word unless they were pretty sure.Im glad you are recovered. Xx

  • Buds

you never no you could be a lucky one I really hope you are fingers toes everything crossed for you my lovely x

  • Thank you,yes there is still that small chance it isn't xx

  • Hello buds, I am in the same boat.  51, found a lump, had my appointment at the breast clinic today. Mammogram seemed fine, but had a biopsy at the ultrasound (tried to out clips in but apparently my tissue was too dense so she gave up). Consultant made reference to future treatment, saying she was concerned that it was malignant.

Now two weeks of waiting and worrying!

Hope you get good news, but you are not alone!

  • Hi Fuzzypenguin, thank you, hope.you have good news too.I think I was a bit taken aback he said worried small cancer eleven before the results.I think I coming to understand though that they know.what abnormal looks like. The Consultant radiologist said when the results come back if it's cancer then I will need a Mri.In her words as "I would be worried what else I'm missing in the breast"

  • I’m telling myself that it’s better to be prepared now than have a bomb dropped on me with the results (especially as my GP seemed convinced it was a cyst and would just be drained at this appointment !)

I have an appointment to get the results for April 2nd—idk if that’s how they generally share results in my area, or if that’s another indicator that it might not be good news! Can tell I’ll be overthinking absolutely everything for the next two weeks (the rollercoaster ride of ‘it might be OK’ to ‘it’s probably spread everywhere and will kill me by Christmas’ is an exhausting one, and I’ve only been on it for two hours /o\

  • Hey there, just to let you know I got my biopsy results today—and it seems the consultant was mistaken, as there was no evidence of cancer found.  I will be having another ultrasound just to make sure, but I may have got very lucky.  I hope you have too.

  • Hi Fuzzypenguin, that is really good news.I know it would have been such a worry for you.I had my appt last Thursday,I have been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. It is small and not showing any cancer in my lymphodes.I will be starting 6 months of chemotherapy  followed by a lumpectomy and finally radiotherapy.Im looking at 10 months of treatment xx
