Enlarged spleen and diagnosis problems

I've been diagnosed with an enlarged spleen. I have low platelets and anaemia. Tiredness, itchy skin, discomfort. I was due to have it removed but my heamatologist stopped the operation saying I probably have MPN, not SMZL. I've waited 5 months for a diagnosis and still don't have one. My stress and anxiety has increased. I'm phoning my hospital cancer care line today to ask for an appointment with the MPN consultant. What can I say or do to speed up a diagnosis? Any help or advice welcome.

Thanks!

  • Welcome to the forum Timbergrl although I'm sorry to hear how long you've been waiting for a diagnosis, and that you still don't have one yet.

This must be very stressful but I hope you've managed to get an appointment with an MPN consultant now and they will finally be able to give you some answers. I'm not sure how much you know or have been told about myeloproliferative neoplasms, but you can find out more about MPN on our website.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon, but if you feel it may help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
