Ovarian cancer

My mother is 83 and is having a hysteroscopy to confirm ovarian cancer she has a large cyst on her ovaries the size of a orange. Will they do a hysterectomy on her due to age and will she have chemotherapy or radiotherapy? So worried my stepdad funeral is Tuesday we've had him in hospital last 6 months and my mother put off going to see about her swollen stomach until she started bleeding

  • Hi Tilly2shoes and welcome to the forum.

I'm so sorry to hear about your stepdad. This must be such a difficult time for you and your mother, especially as she may now be diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Although we have some information on how treatment decisions are made, it's only the doctors - once they've got all the information they need - that can say for sure what treatment your mum may be able to have.

I know this must be a very scary and anxious time, so if you'd like to talk any of this through with our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very supportive, and insightful, and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

I hope some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon as well but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Tilly and wishing your mum all the best with her hysteroscopy.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Tilly2shoes

Sorry to hear about your mom & stepdad

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and cancer of the womb last November I had my operation in February which was a full hysterectomy.

Once your mom's consultant has all the results they want they will choose the best treatment for her.

    Sending loads of love xx
