Can I move from having tests done privately to having treatment on the NHS?

Hello. I hope everyone is well this sunday evening.

i wanted to ask a question and was wondering if anyone here can help….

I have found a mole that needs to be looked at. Due to work commitments (abroad travel) i cant wait for the NHS to do their thing regarding referal into biopsy, etc. i can get a biopsy done privately this week. If the results came back that further treatment is required, which would be a wider excision and lymph node biopsy, could this still be done with the NHS? As i wouldnt be able to afford further private treatment/proceedures.

Looking forward to your replies.

many thanks.

  • Welcome to the forum Jr147 although I'm sorry to hear you have a mole that needs looking at.

I hope this information we have about moving between NHS and private healthcare will help answer your question but for further information and advice you're very welcome to give our nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to assist you.

Hopefully some of our members will share their experiences and advice, but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Jr147 and will have our fingers crossed your mole is no cause for concern.

    Kind regards,

  • I have private healthcare through my work. I am currently having investigations to rule out cancer and was told that my insurance does not cover treatment for cancer but will get me to a diagnosis. After that I would slot back into the NHS for treatment. I would imagine most insurance companies are the same but not sure if you lay out of pocket yourself.
