enlarged lymph nodes in neck

About 6 weeks ago I noticed an enlarged lymph node on right side of my neck.  Since then, I found 2 more on the left side but slightly to the back.  The others I have found are bigger than the original one

All are hard, don’t move and are not painful, but I seem to be able to feel them slighly less sow hen I push on them.  When I found the first one I thought it might even be a muscle knot, but now I definitely think they are and feel like lymph nodes - no other symptoms

GP appt tomorrow

anyone else got/had similar and what do/did your lymph nodes feel like

thank you

  • Hi Jess,

Hope your ultrasound goes well x

Let us know how you get on. I’m in a similar situation however my GP is not willing to refer me for a scan. I’ve booked another appointment with another GP, hopefully this one will take me seriously.

  • Thanks, Alice.  My Ultrasound is on Thursday !

Oh no - what is your GP's reason for that?  Are you US or UK?

  • I’m in the UK!

My GP is convinced i’m overthinking it and that because im slim and young, it’s normal for me to feel my lymph nodes. She thinks it’s a waste to refer me. I’ve also had bouts of night sweats which she thinks are due to stress.

Hopefully someone else will take me seriously if not i’ll have to try and get a scan privately.

    Good luck for Thursday!

  • I am UK too.  That doesnt seem right - defo get a second opinion !

Where abouts in your neck can you feel your lymph nodes and what do they feel like?  What age range are you?

    Thank you !

  • My lymph node is on the right side of my neck, kind of under the jaw/ middle neck area. It feels rock hard and is moveable. I would say it’s the size of a small grape (maybe smaller). You can’t see it but it’s definitely there when you touch my neck. I’m 24 which is why my GP won’t take me seriously, but i know a lot of lymphomas are diagnosed in the younger age range.

How does your lymph node feel? Is it visible?

  • Oh my enlarged lymph nodes are not in the same area as yours.  I have another one coming up now but at the moment only feels like a small pea.  Again, like the others, its hard and doesnt move.  I dont think my move anyway.  How do yours feels can you really obviously move it?

Funny enough, you can see the first one I found, but the other two on my other side which feel bigger you cannot see.

I am not tioo much older than you I am only 29.  I am thankful my GP has taken it seriously and referred me under an urgent referral.  Do you have another GP appt yet for a second opinion?

  • Where is yours located on your neck?

Mine is moveable in the sense that if i push it, it easily moves from side to side. There’s a few around my big lymph node that also move but they are all smaller than pea sized so i’m not sure if they are of concern too.

When my GP felt my lymph nodes she used two fingers and pressed lightly to check my whole neck and collarbone area, however my lymph node can mostly be felt when using a bit more pressure, I hope that makes sense.

I will be making another GP appointment on Monday. I wanted to give a week between my appointments before booking another one as i’m sure the next GP will tell me to wait and come back. I have private health insurance through work too so I will start the process privately if the second GP doesn’t take me seriously.

  • So mine on the right side which is the first one I found, plus this little pea which is right by it is in the posteriar traingle of the neck.  The two on the other side are right att he back of the side of my neck, one on the back of my neck.  I beleive they are all cervical lymph nodes.

Ah ok I would say mine do not move at all then

Tha's good ! I dont blame you for going private if your own GP isnt taking this seriously.  I would 100% pursue its not worh the risk

  • How large are yours? Apart from the pea sized one x

Will be thinking of you and praying your ultrasound goes well! Let us know how you get on xx

  • I was thinking about this over the weekend, the size of them do you go by how much they protrude, or by the circumference? If that makes sense lol.  A couple of mine are quite flat, dr said its probably because they are deep in the tissue or something x
