Colposcopy, high-grade (moderate) dyskaryosis and a hard pelvic lymph node

Hi all,

Back in 2021 I was referred to a routine Colposcopy clinic following a series of HPV+ smears that eventually showed low-grade cell changes. Upon further investigation, I was discharged back to the regular cervical screening cadence and told it would probably clear on its own.

Two weeks ago I went for my first routine smear since being discharged and yesterday was informed that I have an urgent appointment on Monday as high-level (moderate) dyskaryosis has been found. I have also identified a small, hard lump in the lymph node area of my pelvis on the right-hand side in the crease between the top of your thigh and your groin.

Does anyone have any stories of something similar or insight/advice for me please?

For background information, I am 35 years old, 2 full term pregnancies, 3 pregnancy losses, with a significant birth injury (Grade 3 tear) following my first birth that required immediate surgery after delivery and subsequent surgery and treatment, and a C-section delivery with my second. There is no history of cervical cancer in my family that I know of.

Many thanks

  • Hello CD2911,

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck for your appointment on Monday. I know it can be stressful to be told you have moderate dyskaryosis but try not to worry too much as these abnormal cells can be treated successfully but it is important that you go to your appointment and get these sorted. Our website explains clearly what abnormal cervical cells are and you can also find more information about the colposcopy. I hope that all this will reassure you and that you will also hear from other members of our community who have been through this before and they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

The small hard lump you found in the lymph node area of your pelvis may be a different matter but it is important if you haven't done so already that you flag this with your GP  - they will be able to look at it closely and tell you what it is. So do make an appointment to see your doctor about this if you haven't done it yet.

I hope that all goes well on Monday!

    Best wishes,
