Endometrium Thickness of 14mm -

Hello all,

I’ve been feeling sore in gynae area for about a year.

i had an ultrasound on 26th Oct 23 privately and then again on the NHS on 5th Dec 23

the later ultrasound report reads as follows:

myometrium - bulky anteverted uterus measuring 90 x 52 x 55. The myometrium appeared heterogenous in echotexture with some cystic spaces identified. There is a focal area within the anterior myometrium which is hyperechoic with cystic spaces appearance.

cervix - unremarkable

The endometrium appeared slightly heterogenous and cystic with vascukarity noted within the endometrium. The endometrium measures 14mm in AP diameter.

adnexal masses or cysts - no

other comments - x

urgent Gynecological referral is advised

so my go received this in Dec 23 and I found out this week that my gp failed to do the referral. So my wait has started

I have not eaten or slept in 2 days.

I have 2 young children and my anxiety is through the roof. I have been told that I will get a consultant appointment within the next 2 weeks but then will have to wait for a Hysteroscopy.

I just wanted to hear from anyone who had been in a similar situation and what the outcome was.

Worried in an understatement. Someone please talk to me

  • Hello Rm2307

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns and that following your scans at the end of last year, the recommended referral wasn't made. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

Hopefully, when you see the Consultant they will be able to give you some reassurance ahead of your next appointment but in the meantime, I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can as well as help you think about any questions you might want to ask the specialist. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Rm2307 and let us know when you have an appointment date and how you get on. We're here to listen and will do our best to support you through this worrying time.

    Best wishes,

  • that is appalling re your GP. Once you get sorted I would certainly put in a complaint.

I am currently going trough tests to rule out Endometrial Cancer due to post menopausal bleeding, cramping and pelvic pain.

I had a trans vaginal and abdominal ultrasounds on Monday just fine and am now waiting for a hysteroscopy which is currently on 21st April but so am hoping for an earlier appointment or cancellation as 4 weeks is just too long for my liking. This is private but the delay is because my consultant is away.

What I can tell you is this, my consultant who is a Gynaecologist Oncologist, told me last week that 99% of women he sees do NOT end up having cancer. I found that very reassuring.

What I have tried to do is to only look at proper cancer related websites such as this site and mcmillan. I have also ready the NICE guidelines about endometrial thickness etc as my scan showed mine to be 6mm. It does seem that there are several different reasons as to why the endometrial thickness can be raised. some are not bad and some are, but what I have read about endometrial cancer is that it is highly treatable.

    Wishing you good luck

  • Hello,

Thanks for your reply. 6mm seems to be fairly normal i thought.

What other symptoms are you having to be even on this pathway.

Which spire are you under? Are you in London?

    Thanks

  • Hi, I have had post menopausal bleeding, abdominal/pelvic cramping and pain.

    Spires Leicester.

  • Hi RM2307,

I don’t have any answers I’m afraid but I just wanted to let you know I am going through exactly the same situation.

The similarities are uncanny to the point that your USS report could have been mine.

I had a hysteroscopy on Monday, I am waiting to hear back regarding biopsy results.

I was really reassured by what my gynae consultant told me, he advised it is likely benign changes to the tissue of my womb lining. I have a couple of gynae conditions that have just been diagnosed in the last couple of months.

I hope you’re okay. It’s an awful time waiting for investigations/results because you just feel like you’re in limbo.

hopefully you’ll be booked into a hysteroscopy clinic. That way it will be an appointment with the medical team and you have the procedure on the same day.
