3 week wait for ovarian cyst and endometrial biopsy

Hello all, I was hoping for a little advice if that's ok? Sorry in advance for the rambling post.....

I am 41 and have 4 lovely little ones . I had an ovarian cyst removed 3 weeks ago, along with a biopsy of 'endometrial build up on uterine wall' and had a mirena coil fitted (for periods so heavy I go very anaemic which have got a lot worse the last 18 months).

My consultant seems very good but doesn't really give a lot away! He only told me after the op that the cyst , which on ultrasound looked like an Endometrioma (due to having echos) wasn't that but has sent it off for biopsy . I also have never been diagnosed with endometriosis. He didn't mention about the build up or that he had biopsied anything else until I received the letter about the op. I also have a slightly raised CA125 but only 43.

He did say following the op that results are back in two weeks. I had this all done privately as my husband has healthcare. I am very anxious as I feel so in the dark about it all . I called his secretary at the 2 week mark to ask about the ovarian cyst biopsy but all she said asked was if I had a follow up (which I do one week today) so she said I need to wait for that , which will be 4 weeks from the op. She didn't take my name or anything , just said if we need to call you we will. I then received a detailed letter about the other biopsy, so sent a polite email 5 days ago just explaining  that he had said two weeks and I was very anxious . I've heard nothing at all still.

I know it's only one more week . But keep going through scenarios - have the results not come back yet so that's why they haven't called or is there nothing wrong so just letting me wait or is there something wrong and he is sorting arrangements ! I'm driving myself mad !!!

Just wondering has anyone else waiting a long time for results privately? Not sure if it's different as there aren't MDT meetings ? Has anyone ever had endometrial wall build up - I can't seem to find info on it . so sorry for all the questions .

  • Hello Pop123,

sorry you are going through this worrying time. I am at day 19 (and counting) waiting for a endometrial and cervical biopsy. Mine is due to bleeding and thickened lining. I am 43. I had mine done at a private hospital but through NHS due to waiting lists being so long. From what I have been reading I don’t think your delay is unusual. I would just keep dropping them a call. I called this week and they said if anything comes in they will call. I have a follow up appointment booked in, but that is not until mid April and I certainly can’t wait that long I will go loopy.

  • Thank you so much for replying. It sounds like we are in a similar position .  I hope you're doing ok.
The waiting is horrid . One minute I think oh everything must be fine as someone would have called to is something going on behind the scenes !

  • Hi, I hope you're well. I took your advice and actually just called the secretary. She said he would discuss them next week . I said that I've been quite nervous and just wanted to know . She said that if anything had come up worrying about the results he would have called me already about them . So I'm taking that as the biopsies are are ok I think .

  • Hello, I am really pleased you advocated for yourself and made the call. It sounds positive and I hope it has put you at ease somewhat. Please let us know how you get on.

  • Thank you and will do. Hope you also hear soon and have positive results x

  • Hi, how are you all? I just read your stories and hope you are all well! I can't see any new/updated posts. The last one is 3 months ago. Have you had your results?

I came across this forum while I was researching more information about my own recent scan result: "High in the left adnexa there is a 40 x 37mm complex mixed echo cyst.
No increase in vascularity seen." I had Ca125 done four weeks ago and result was 19. I'm currently waiting for the hospital to contact me regarding the urgent referral for suspected gynaecological cancer from my GP and I'm extremely worried. I'm trying to stay of google but it's hard not to read....
