Smear test results

Hi I'm a 35 mother of 4 just had a routine smear test, with the results I'm HPV positive with low - grade dyskaryosis . I'm now waiting for an appointment for a colposcopy.

I'm sick worrying about my results keep thinking about if my results are wrong and it's worse then they think.

I no its probably not related to people's problems that are on this site I just needed someone or somewhere to talk about it as I'm scared to death my mind is running a marathon with bad thoughts.

  • Hi have you had your appointment? I’ve just got the same, however i also have constant low back pain/ache and period type pain. Occasionally bleeding after intercourse which i read are symptoms so now my head is all over and worrying x

  • I had the lower back pain/ache, and put it down to something else - never even knew it was a symptom. Also had the odourless discharge I put down to something else. I wonder if I had another symptom not yet connected to CIN - an excess of mucus during and after intercourse - I mean, more than was my normal with previous partners. As for the panic and worry. You can ask your gp for a referral to the mental health team and thus talking therapies, I say, still on the waiting list - but the service is very new in this neck of the woods... The waiting to know what is, and what happens next is not kind, so please, try be kinder to yourself than normal. I spent the two weeks in tears hiding my results. Then I had the appointment to discuss my situation. Not a fun experience, but, the positive I now take from that, is that it inspired me to go home and do research. Other people's experiences, every angle, every opinion - reading can be a source of healing.

  • I’ve also had a ridiculous amount of fluid during intercourse too! I have to have a mattress protector and have to change the sheets each time there’s so much. Ive been with my partner 9 years this has happened for the last 18 months/2 years. I put that down to getting older and reading late 30s is supposed to be the better time for women sexually. I’ve also noticed that the back ache seems to be worse when i need to have a bowel movement

Im still waiting for my appointment some days im ok others i can’t get of out of my head. I live in a big city and waiting times are long.

  • So perhaps it should be a symptom, and publicisied as one? PLEASE could you ask at your appointment if it should be recognised as a symptom??

(If I ever get to see a consultant again, I will also ask.)

9 years is about right for HPV to have developed into CIN - according to the NHS info I was given. But, there is so much contradicting info on HPV, please do read as much as you can - even before the appointment.

If you have a good or better gp dr - ask for a full vitamin and mineral screen - to check you are not low or deficient, as this may help your body heal quicker.

I am not saying that you caught HPV from your current partner, but with the time scale - it is possible. I am certain I caught HPV from my current partner, and I am certain he still has HPV - due to a few other health things he has. I argued with consultants for him to be tested, as other countries test sperm for HPV, but the NHS do not test men. We have not had sex since my diagnosis Jan 23....... and, tbh, I am not sure how I am ever going to bring myself to do so again without him being tested... Hard times in the mental health department!!

I wish that when I was a HPV only diagnosis in 2018 - I had not listened to the consultant who said - 'don't worry, go away, get on with life, we will monitor this'. I wish I had gone away scared, terrified for my life, prepared to read and research, cause I am certain I would not have developed CIN if I had been told what it could have turned into.........
