How long

i recently had my gallbladder removed and they removed it successfully. However they discovered a single 9mm lump in my lung from the ct scan.

What are the next steps and when should they happen in terms of time from diagnosis. Would I be quicker if I was to go private for my diagnosis.

i have been told I should have another scan in about 8 weeks. If it returns positive for cancer can you tell me how long after would my treatment start.

  • Hello Boboblue,

It's difficult to say how long, as experiences vary, so you might get a better idea by contacting your doctor. There is some information on getting results after a CT scan on our website. Waiting for further tests or results can be quite nerve-wracking, but your this can be managed and there some useful tips on the SAGA website.

    All the best to you,

  • I am assuming that because we already have the results of the ct scan which identified the 9mm lump, that I wouldn’t require a further ct scan. Can you tell me what the most likely step would be to diagnose whether or not it would be cancerous. I am a great believer in the nhs but should I consider whether or not I should seek a private consultation in relation to timescales.

  • Hi Boboblue,

It's possible that they have advised the repeat scan in order to check how things are at that point. It's difficult to advise beyond this, as only the medical team involved in your care will really be able to do this.

You are welcome to post in the 'Ask the Nurses' section of this forum if you'd like to get the thoughts of one of our nurses - although their advice will only be on a general basis.

    Wishing you all the best,
