Suspected uterine polyp 8-12 month referral??

Hello all,

I went to the doctors at the start of January due to a few symptoms, bleeding between periods, period type cramping pains etc.

I first reported this when I had my smear and was told everything looked ok and my results came back clear. It was then that I went the GP who referred me for a colposcopy under the two week wait. When I got there they said going from my symptoms and recent smear test I should never have been sent there. I let them do it anyway to try and move forward and they advised for me to get back in touch with the GP for an ultrasound.

At the end of February, the ultrasound found a suspected uterine polyp of around 11mm. Again back to the GP, well an advanced nurse anyway, who then referred me to gynaecology.

When the date on the "urgent referral" letter had passed, I called the hospital who have told me the wait time to be seen is 8 - 12 months. I don't know if I should be on the 2 weeks wait as I was sent to the wrong place at first. When first referred they said it was to gynaecology but when I went for the colposcopy they said it was just a clinic and not part of general gynaecology?

Is this right to wait so long for an appointment to then wait again for a hysteroscopy? I'm worried there could be something wrong and they might wait a year or so to check.

Meanwhile I'm enjoying the pain and being on edge worrying I might start bleeding again at anytime.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns recently. Whilst it's good to hear that the tests you've had to date haven't given any immediate cause for concern it's understandable that you're worried about the length of time you've been told you'll need to wait for further investigation and tests.

We know that many people are experiencing long waiting times in their areas for a variety of reasons. It's certainly worth making an appointment to go back to your GP to discuss your concerns. Hopefully they will be able to offer you some reassurance and help with pain management as well.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I do hope things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
