Second Biopsies after breast biopsies: been told I need further lymph node biopsies

Having waited 17 days for the results of my breast biopsies I finally went back to the clinic yesterday only to be told I needed further biopsies of my lymph node.
Has anyone else had this happen ? I don’t know what to think!

  • Hello Beep3,

I can imagine this is a bit confusing for you after waiting all this time for your breast biopsies results. I hope you won't mind but I have slightly edited the title of your thread so that it can be spotted more easily by others who have had lymph node biopsies in a similar context.

There is information on our website on lymph node ultrasound and biopsy which I hope you will find useful and which will help you prepare for the biopsy. If you have any questions about this, feel free to get in touch with our cancer nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you can have these biopsies very soon and that you will quickly get some definite answers. Keeping everything crossed for you and let us know if you get a moment what you find out.

I will now let our members who have had a lymph node biopsy before come and say hello and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • HI Beep3,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I know how frustrated you must feel. Having waited so long, you naturally expected to get a definitive answer yesterday. Unfortunately, many find themselves in the same position. Some of us need a different type of biopsy, or further tests (for eg. a CT or MRI) to give a clearer view of our tissues. It is important that all the necessary details can be picked up, in order to target the right treatment, if needed. Try not to overthink things, as this doesn't always mean bad news. I had to have these additional tests and despite having 2 bouts of breast cancer within a year of each other, no lymph nodes were affected. I had 6 removed, just to make sure. I am now 14 years down the line and still leading a busy and fulfilling life.

I hope that your appointment comes through soon and that it doesn't take too long to get the results.

Please keep in contact and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you so much for replying, I just feel very alone as nobody I know has been through this. I’m trying to remain optimistic and not dwell on it too much!
You know how it is, I just need to know what it is or isn’t!

  • Hi Beep,

It is never easy dealing with the unknown. Irrespective of the outcome, it is easier to cope with things, once you have the results. Most of us would agree that this is one of the hardest parts of our cancer journey.

You need never feel alone, now that you've found this forum. We all know just how awful this wait is and there is always someone here to chat to you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
